Take beautiful selfies!

You are enjoying the last bit of summer and you can still feel the heat of the beach and the breeze from the sea on your tanned skin. No better moment that taking a selfie for your Instagram followers! The first thing you do is looking for sunlight and you place your smiley face in the most luminous spot and ... CLICK!

But you end up with a picture where you squint your eyes and have horrible shadows on your face like in this picture!

Example of how direct sun creates dark shadows on your face

The most common mistake that everyone does is thinking that direct sunlight is the best option when snapping pics outdoor. What´s better than the old big sun to illuminate our bodies right?

As surprising as it might sound, direct sunlight is the worst light for portraits. Photographers try to avoid it because it is not flattering and creates hard shadows on the face of models. For this reason, harsh sunlight makes taking selfies more difficult! But hey, you don’t need to be a photographer to take great photos outdoor! Follow this simple trick.

Have always the sun behind you.

Check that the shadow that you create on the floor is in front of you. Then you are sure to be in the sweet spot for a great selfie!

When the sun is behind the subject, the light becomes very soft and there are now hard shadows on your face

As you can see from the picture above, simply by turning and leaving the sun behind the shoulders you get rid of horrible shadows that makes you look like a panda with black eyes! In addition, the light will be very soft making your face look more gracious.

And what if you really want the sun to shine on you? Well, all you have to do is pointing your nose to the sun, so that it will illuminate evenly your face. Check the photo below!

Top-fashion look: point your nose at the sun to illuminate evenly your face!

The techniques that I illustrated to you are constantly used by fashion photographers when dealing with outdoor shoots and they help you control the light and the shadows it creates on your face.

Now you are ready to pose like a star and make sure you take the best selfies possible! Want to know how to edit your photos on Instagram? Follow my Facebook page to read the next article!
